This makes sense now. I modified my program based on this and
earlier responses and I was able to read all the characters.

P.S. My sister is involved in computers and research libraries and she
was saying that computers are now being applied in new areas in
education, such as the humanities. It seems to me that I read that Icon
had been put to use in this area, but I don't remember any details. Can
you elaborate on this or point me in the right direction? Thanks again.
